Best way to preserve Flowers during a drive?

I’m going on a four hour trip with a friend of mine tomorrow and we’re driving back to her house–thing is, I have a Bouquet of flowers saved for her birthday and want to give them to her when she picks me up. Would they be okay sitting in the backseat in the heat, or what kind of measures should I take to keep them from getting ruined during the drive?

Ice water. I took flowers from Las Vegas to Phoenix in beer buckets full of ice water, packed in a box so they wouldn’t fall over. They lasted for days after that!
